2017 Fall Sports Preview

by Matt Consentino

Most high schools in South Jersey don’t officially open up the year until the first full week of September, but for the scholastic athletes in our area hoping to stand out from the crowd this fall, it was time to get back to work much sooner.

Practices for the fall sports season always begin in early August, and even before that, football players were working hard in the weight room, soccer stars were competing in summer leagues and tennis standouts were spending hot days under the sun at their local courts.

That kind of dedication has always led to memorable athletic achievements in South Jersey over the years, and this season promises more of the same. Suburban Family gets it all started with our annual Fall Sports Preview, focusing on nine sports: football, boys and girls soccer, field hockey, girls tennis, boys and girls cross country, girls volleyball and gymnastics.

In the following pages, you will find the key returning players, promising newcomers, season outlooks and schedules for Bishop Eustace, Camden Catholic, Cherokee, Cherry Hill East, Cherry Hill West, Clearview, Eastern, Gloucester Catholic, Haddonfield, Kingsway, Lenape, Moorestown, Moorestown Friends, Paul VI, Seneca, Shawnee, St. Augustine and Washington Township.

This is shaping up as another fantastic season for local athletes and teams, and if you’re like us, you can’t wait for Friday night football, playoff field hockey and everything in between.
