One of the women I spoke with in my tenure was Heather Hirst, a Glassboro mother and wife who was living with metastatic breast cancer when we spoke in October 2014. Heather told me, “It’s hard for me in October, especially because I’m metastatic, to see everything shrunk down into one month. Because it’s 365 days a year for me.”
Heather lost her fight with cancer in September 2015, but her words have stuck with me since the day we spoke, and while we at Suburban Family make it a point to preserve part of our magazine every October for those living with the reality of breast cancer, I feel lucky to have learned more about the experts in our area who are dedicating their 365 days a year to ending cancer once and for all.
