WHEN JAMIE SCHMIDT WAS A YOUNG BOY HE LEARNED EARLY ON THE VALUE OF HAVING A STRONG WORK ETHIC FROM HIS BUSINESS OWNER GRANDFATHER.
While working closely with his grandfather Joseph at his window washing business, the young boy saw firsthand the importance of providing high quality and reliable services, an enduring legacy that has been the bedrock of every aspect of his business for more than two decades .
“My grandfather’s motto was this: ‘Always work hard and do a quality job and everything else will fall into place,’” he says.
Today, Schmidt, the 45-year-old president of GreenWay Pressure Washing has passed on his grandfather’s valuable life lessons to his dedicated employees, always to the great benefit of his satisfied residential and commercial customers.
“GreenWay Pressure Washing is proud to be South Jersey’s premier roof cleaning and pressure washing company,” explains Schmidt, who has been in the business for 20 years. The company services residential, commercial, and multi-unit clients across New Jersey.
“They are not just customers; we are developing relations hips with clients for the future, so they know that they can always count on us,” he says. “It feels great to have so many valued repeat customers, especially because my business model is built on the importance of building strong, lasting relationships.”
Among the serv ices his company provides are soft house washing, concrete cleaning, gutter cleaning, gutter brightening, paver restoration, rust removal, pressure washing, and in the long-held family tradition, window cleaning.
It is also fitting that one of the company’s services tha t is greatly appreciated is installing Christmas and holiday lights around the community.
What sets GreenWay apart from other cleaning services? “We don’t use high pressure,” explains Schmidt, “instead we soft wash the property, which is cleaner and results in a safer outcome for the home.”
When hiring a pressure cleaning company, or a contractor, many residential and commercial customers may not know exactly what to ask or how to evaluate the services they are seeking, which could result in shoddy workmanship.
In order to help these current and prospective customers, Schmidt has a few tips: Hire only certified contractors, with up-to-date insurance who can provide multiple referrals and a customer-first mindset.
Schmidt says that large scale projects may require additional referrals. For example, when dealing with a homeowner’s association (HOA), the property managers should ask for at least three referrals.
GreenWay Pressure Cleaning recently cleaned 43 buildings for a Cherry Hill townhouse association; and considering the number of buildings and property owners involved, it could have been tricky to satisfy everyone.
Proudly, Schmidt says, “The property manager told me the feedback was great—every one involved was unbelievably happy with our work. Logistically, it can be difficult to keep all of the residents in an HOA happy—but we did it!”
The overall company goal, he said, “is providing quality service at reasonable rates.” His personal goal “is to give back to the community and to educate other contractors.”
Schmidt believes so strongly in quality workmanship that last year he became a member of the board of directors for the United Association of Mobile Contract Cleaners (UAMCC). As such, he travels around the nation to educate cleaners on proper cleaning techniques through training seminars and events.
Over the years, there has been a trend for homeowners to replace their roofs due to unsightly stains, but Schmidt can save his customers a great deal of money by simply and safely removing those stains.
“Tired of looking at that ugly roof?” he asks. “GreenWay Pressure Washing will safely clean your roof of all those nasty black stains and moss by using a safe ‘no-pressure’ process to safely clean your roof.”
These techniques include roof stain cleaning, algae an d moss removal, a UAMCC-certified service that uses a safe no-pressure process with a five-year warranty.
Like his grandfather, Schmidt believes in being a role model for his five children, who range in age from 16 to 25, which means making a difference and a positive lasting impression in the neighborhoods where he works. “Our major aim,” says Schmidt, “is giving back to the community as much as we can.
“I saw that the playgrounds in Cherry Hill were extremely dirty, so we washed one of them for no charge,” he says. “It went on social media and now we wash every playground in the township, free of charge, as they need to be done. It always feels good to be able to help by giving back.”
