The Fifis Family, Cherry Hill
Violetta Fifis and her three sons Nick, Chris, and John, started the Jim Fifis Lung Cancer Research Fund in honor of her late husband, raising more than $80,000 thus far for the Cooper Cancer Institute to fund cancer research.

Washington Township High School’s Interact Club facilitated the community’s annual Buddy Walk, a celebration of Down Syndrome Awareness that promotes acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome. Pictured from left are Interact Club members Carly Black, Karissa Gretkowski, Julia Cooper and April Renzetti.

Mary Lamielle, Voorhees
Lamielle was honored with the 2011 New Jersey Governor’s Jefferson Award. The community service-minded executive director of the National Center for Environmental Health Strategies was selected from more than 1,000 nominations.

Dawn Marie Addiego, Marlton
Senator Addiego served as a volunteer grocery bagger for the recent “Help Bag Hunger” Day at ShopRite of Marlton, which raised money and community awareness to combat hunger in our area.

Judith S. Charny Esq., Mount Laurel
Charny was named the Women’s Advocate of the Year by the South Jersey chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners. She will be honored at the organization’s annual “Beyond the Glass Ceiling” awards dinner next month.

Mario and Gisele DiNatale, Voorhees
The DiNatale family, as part of the Alica Rose Victorious Foundation, opened their first “teen center” last month at Virtua Hospital on Route 73. The family started the foundation in honor of their daughter Alicia who passed away from cancer at age 17, and seeks to improve the quality of life for terminally ill teenagers.

Tommy Muccifori, Moorestown
This charitable Moorestown High School student donated his front-row World Series tickets to an auction to benefit his school. The seats were auctioned off as part of the Moorestown Education Foundation’s annual golf outing and auction fundraiser, which raised $35,000 for the district last year.

Mary Ann Zaleski and Angelina Jeffreys, Haddonfield
These brave neighbors chased away a burglar who broke into Zaleski's home. The suspect was later caught by police and the women were commended for their efforts to aid local law enforcement.

Kiera and Amber Malone, Tabernacle
These sisters hosted their fourth summer food drive and donated 514 pounds of food to the South Jersey Food Bank. The two plan to host a coat drive in the winter.

Scott and Rachel Kasper, Mount Laurel
Kasper, vice president of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s South Jersey chapter, located in Cherry Hill, raised more than $20,000 with the help of his wife, Rachel, during a recent 72-mile charity bike ride.

Pete Canale, Medford
Canale is one of two inaugural winners of the Country School Association of America Service Award. A member of the Medford Historical Society, Canale has worked to restore the Cross Keys one-room schoolhouse with period furnishings and a fresh interior and exterior. Canale also supports the establishment of a living history program for Medford third-graders.

Erich Gittler, Collingswood
Erich Gittler is for the birds. Chickens, to be exact. This outspoken 8-year-old has been promoting a proposed ordinance to allow Collingswood residents to keep up to three chickens. His efforts include showing up in his best suit at town meetings, creating a Facebook support page, and even baking chicken-shaped cookies to hand out to commissioners. His ultimate goal? A community-wide chicken coop for everyone to enjoy.
