5A Girls Travel Basketball (pictured)

The 5A girls travel team defeated Haddonfield in a thrilling final game of the season. Their 38-24 win was enough to score them the title of Inter-County Basketball League Junior B Atlantic Division Champions.

Center Elementary Odyssey of the Mind

A team from Center Elementary School took the silver medal at the New Jersey Odyssey of the Mind competition, a program in which students work together to form creative solutions to different challenges. The Haddonfield team, made up of Matt Eyles, Lillian Leimkuhler, Danny Cavanna, Jesse Eible Hargro, Jack Eyles, Chase Ricci and T.J. Smith, wrote and performed an original musical called “ARTchitecture: The Musical” as part of their presentation. They advanced to the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals, to be held from May 22-25 at Michigan State University, and are raising money to attend the event.

Cherry Hill East Robotics Club
Cherry Hill
The Robotics Club at Cherry Hill East started with just one team three years ago. There are now five teams, and two of them qualified for the VEX Robotics World Championships, which took place in Anaheim, Calif., in April, where they won the VEX Robotics Teamwork Award in their division. Black Tie Robotics 2616 B consisted of Max Bliss, Conrad Kramer, Jeremy Welsh and Iftikhaar Ali, while Frightening Lightning 2616 F was represented by Mike Borinski, Dana Chafetz and Jason Fisch. Approximately 420 teams from more than 25 countries in the world competed at the event.

Cinnaminson Girls Basketball
Cinnaminson
Led by head coach Bob LePage and assistant coach Randy MacNair, the Cinnaminson fifth-grade basketball team beat Haddonfield, 21-16, to claim the Inter-County Basketball League Junior C Division championship. The girls beat Haddon Township in the first round and Moorestown in the semifinals. Cinnaminson was the third seed in the 10-team bracket and went 11-5 in the regular season.

Moorestown Friends Consumer Bowl
Moorestown
Moorestown Friends School defended its title at the Burlington County Consumer Bowl, becoming the second team to ever win three years in a row. The event uses a game-show format to test students’ knowledge of consumer issues. Moorestown Friends went on to win the Southern Regional Competition and now advances to the state finals, to be held on May 23.

Cherokee Girls Track

The Cherokee High School girls track 4x400 relay team won the South Jersey large-school relay at the Penn Relays for the first time ever and set a school record by two seconds. The team of Kristen Visconti, Sarah Robbie, Courtney Foster and Brittany King clocked a time of 3 minutes, 54.98 seconds at the prestigious event.

Lenape Team French
Mount Laurel
On April 24, students at Lenape High School competed in the World Language Olympics, answering questions during a knowledge bowl and participating in various events after school. Team French captured first place under the direction of French teacher Mary Hubbard.

Medford Tech Boys Basketball
Medford
The Medford Tech High School boys basketball team captured the first sectional championship in program history when it defeated Sterling, 87-69, for the South Jersey Group II title in March. Junior guard Eli Cain had 29 points and sophomore guard Myles Powell added 28 points. Medford Tech went on to reach the state final and finished the season with a 20-11 record.

Moorestown Baseball
Moorestown
The Moorestown High School baseball team took home the championship at the Phil Krug Tournament in April. The Quakers defeated host Millburn, 5-3, in the final after opening with a 10-4 win over Pope John Paul II. Scott Zimmer was named tournament MVP as he struck out 10 and was the winning pitcher in the final.

Marlton 8B Boys Basketball
Marlton
The Marlton 8B boys basketball team participated in a benefit dinner and Chinese auction in April at Prospector’s Steakhouse and Saloon. The team raised funds toward the medical bills for Tommy Kennedy Jr., a freshman basketball and football player from Cherokee High School who is battling leukemia.

U11 and U15/16 Boys Soccer
Washington Township
Several of township’s youth soccer teams placed in the 10th annual Easter Classic Tournament, but these two teams dominated their age groups and came in first place, winning gold medals for their leagues. The tournament drew 144 teams from across the Northeast, with the U11 Washington United Storm outscoring their opponents 5-0, while the U15/16 Washington United Arsenal outscored theirs 13-1.

Eastern High School Drumline
Voorhees
The Eastern Indoor Drumline finished on top of the 2013 Chapter 1 Championships in late April at Deptford High School. This now marks back-to-back chapter championships for the drumline. The Eastern Indoor Colorguard also earned bronze medal honors. Both teams advanced to the All-Chapter Championships in Wildwood earlier this month.
